Equilibria in Interdependent Natural-gas and Electric Power Markets: an Analytical Approach

چکیده

Natural-gas and electric power systems their corresponding markets have evolved over time independently. However, both are increasingly interdependent since combined cycle gas turbines that use natural to produce electricity couple them together. Therefore, suitable analysis techniques most needed comprehend the consequences on market outcomes of an increasing level integration systems. There is a vast literature integrated natural-gas assuming two operated centrally by single operator. This assumption often untrue in real world, which necessitates developing models for these yet independent markets. In this vein, paper addresses gap provides analytical Nash-Cournot equilibrium represent joint operation with participants each make own decisions independently seeking maximum profits, as case world. We develop model apply Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) approach obtain equilibria double-duopoly study interaction derive insightful results. Moreover, we closed-form expressions spot-market markets, relevant practical significance decision makers. complement detailed sensitivity analysis.

Nash equilibria in competitive electric energy markets

Several countries have modified the structure of their Electric Energy Markets (EEM) by the introduction of various levels of competence in the generation, transmission and distribution areas, which allows the generators to sell their production at a short-term market price (or spot price). The fundamental premise of the regulation is that the global efficiency can be improved through a strong ...

Leader-Follower Equilibria for Electric Power and NO x Allowances Markets

This paper investigates the ability of the largest producer in an electricity market to manipulate both the electricity and emission allowances markets to its advantage. A Stackelberg game to analyze this situation is constructed in which the largest firm plays the role of the leader, while the medium-sized firms are treated as Cournot followers with price-taking fringes that behave competitive...

Volatility in Natural Gas and Oil Markets

I use daily futures price data to examine the behavior of natural gas and crude oil price volatility in the U.S. since 1990. I test whether there has been a significant trend in volatility, whether there was a short-term increase in volatility during the time of the Enron collapse, and whether natural gas and crude oil price volatilities are interrelated. I also measure the persistence of shock...
